Put your stamp on creek

ROLL up your sleeves and slip on your gumboots to help revegetate the Merri Creek as part of the Bridging Communities Festival this weekend.

Megan Jericho, of the Merri Creek Management Committee, said the planting of natives session would establish a habitat corridor for wildlife in the wetlands.

"This is our favourite time to work it's cool and there's time for plants to become established before the hot summer," Ms Jericho said.

The project links communities with the creek, and residents from the Northcote housing estate in Holmes St will take part.

"Some of us are used to pitching in at planting days, but we especially want to invite people who haven't joined us before," Ms Jericho said.

Festival activities include roving performances from ex-tram conductors, the Connies, weaving, sculpting water bugs, guided walks and a free halal and vegetarian barbeque.

Go to the Hall Reserve Rotunda Wetland, The Esplanade, Clifton Hill, on Sunday, July 13, from 10am-1pm.
